Term 1, Week 5

Welcome to Shika and Boston who have joined us in Room 14 this week.

This week we have been learning about the weather.

We have been recording the weather conditions and temperature all week.
We have chosen a great week to record all the sunny days!!!

Some children used their fine motor skills to make sunshine rainbows at the craft table.  They did a great job of independently following a series of instructions.
Here are some of the finished products -

We also talked about different weather and had some fun mixing and making magic snow as a sensory activity.

Room 14 visited the book fair this week.  It was fun to see all the exciting new books that were on sale.  Thank you to all the families who supported the book fair and helped with fundraising for our school library.

We are excited to have so many motivated writers in our class.  We have been noticing children choosing to write in lots of different ways this week.  Great work!

On Thursday the whole school were lucky to have Hiwi the Kiwi show about fish for the future. The show explained how we can fish sustainably  in New Zealand as well as staying safe when on the water.

We continued with our weather theme for the week and on Friday we made a piece of artwork inspired by our big book 'I Like The Rain'.  We used our fine motor skills to cut and our muscles to colour our umbrella designs with pastels.  We also used our painting skills to dye the backgrounds of our pictures.

We also created a snow inspired piece of artwork as part of our maths.
We needed to count the letters in our name and then add one more to use for the snowman's head.
