Term 1, Week 4

Happy birthday and welcome to Room 14 Mason.
This week we have been busy completing our learning maps to share with our families at parent, teacher conferences next week.  We hope you enjoyed talking with your child about their learning map.

We also have a new friend who sneaks into our class at night time and leaves us notes.  Our friend is called 'The Fun Fairy'.  We have been writing questions to the fun fairy who has been answering them everyday.  We have to make sure we are quiet during the day so the fun fairy can sleep and then can look after our classroom at night time.

On Wednesday we had a visit from Kelly Sports.  We enjoyed participating in rugby, football, golf, hockey and throwing games.

In Room 14 we LOVE stories.  One of our favourites is 'The Gingerbread Man'.  This week we have been enjoying a lot of activities about the story and have particularly enjoyed retelling and sequencing the story using puppets and other props.

To follow up with our week long Gingerbread man focus we drew our own Gingerbread men and then we cut and pasted pictures into the correct story sequence.

We had lots of fun decorating our yummy gingerbread men.  We used our pincer grip and fine motor skills to add eyes, nose, mouth and buttons.  YUM!!

After that we made a graph of which part of the gingerbread man we ate first.

On Friday afternoon we had a wonderful time playing outside games with our buddy class Ruma Rima and Matua David.  We are so lucky to have such great big buddies.
Lastly - very special thank you to everyone for your healthy contributions to our shared lunch celebration today.  Thanks too to Annette.  We will miss you in Room 14!

Term 1, Week 3

Welcome to Room 14 Ashlynn.
This week we have continued following the life cycle of our classroom butterflies.  The children have set up some rules to keep our precious creatures safe in Room 14.  We now have eggs, caterpillars and a chrysalis.  We are counting how many days it will take until we have our first butterfly.  We have been enjoying reading about the life cycle and sharing our ideas with others.

Our play dough area has turned into an ice cream parlour and birthday cake factory this week.  The teachers have been enjoying some yummy treats!!!

We used our motor skills to draw and write about cats out on the concrete after reading the big book called 'The New Cat.'

Some of us chose to write cards and letters to people that we love on Valentines day.

We have had some amazing authors and illustrators in Room 14 this week.  Here are just a few of them.

On Friday we had fun blowing bubbles outside in the drizzly rain.
The wind did blow our bubbles up, up, up!

We had fun drawing cats and making our own 'The New Cat' story.  You can come and read it on the wall outside our classroom.
We are amazing authors and illustrators.

For our statistics focus this week.  We graphed and counted how many people live in our house.
Can you see your house and family?
